Possible move around the time of the Bond Scheme?
Does anyone else recall talk about possibly moving grounds around the same time as the Bond Scheme? I seem to remember a vote that was overwhelmingly in favour of staying.
Where was it suggested that we would move to, anyone any idea?

PS - even Terry Brown approached the government back in 2003 about the possibility of moving into the Olympic Stadium should London's bid be successful. He was rejected, of course.

This move has been targeted by the club since London first assembled their bid to host The Olympic Games.

Redeveloping the Boleyn Ground was very much a back-up option; and we only had planning permission to increase our stadium by another 5k to a capacity of 40k. There's no certainty that we'd have got the planning permission to increase this further i.e. upwards of 50k and more.

I reckon we'd be fucking huge by now if we'd made the move yonks ago.

Oh, well.

Bad times back then.
Always recall Peter Storrie constantly getting rolled out to speak on behalf of the board.

Rainham marshes went up against Paris for Euro Disney. The site was to be considered for our relocation if it lost the bid for the theme park.

Fortunately neither happened.

I seem to remember any possible move was likely to be Stratford! !!

I don't think the capacity would have been over 45000

If anyone has access to the programme for our last home game of the season in the 89/90 season v Wolves (26 years ago yesterday) will find a consultation paper inside

26 Years ago - FMOB! Remember like it was yesterday, Brady marked his last ever game with a curler at the end !!

I've got that programme in my loft, I'm going to dig it out tomorrow

It was the Royal Mail site at West Ham, disastrous and dangerous and in the middle of nowhere.

Beckton I think and more recently West Ham itself.

I actually went to see mock ups as to what upton park was to look like post the bond scheme. Strangely not much different to what we have today.'

There was some kind of secret invitation only ballot amongst our more wealthy supporters who were known to the Cearns and Terry Brown.

Evidently the response from this group of supporters was pretty unanimous, the Club should move if it could.

But when the idea was floated to supporters in general it was given a bit of luke-warm response so Terry Brown’s arsehole went and he didn’t press on with it.

I knew the bird that collected the initial forms for the club, she did keep quiet about it all for years

I remember at the time thinking it was a silly idea so i texted all my MATES about it then came on here and spouted off about it. For some reason i cant find that thread now.

If I recall correctly it suggested a location close to the banks of the Thames not too far from the Boleyn so would have been somewhere between Beckton and the Royal Docks.

In hindsight I'm glad we didn't move in that era as the stadium designs and location choices then were awful. You just have to think of the New Den as an example.

As of last August Telford Homes are still waiting for planning permission from Newham to demolish the garage and commence re development. Perhaps the sale of the Boleyn to Galliard has held everything up.

Same here, stopped going after the game against Forest when we were all on the pitch and did not go back until Pardew's era in the championship

I worked with the LDDC back in the 80's and as the steam was running out on the docklands developments, they were trying to kick start the Royal Docks end, which was taking a long time to come to life.

We were offered the opportunity to move to the Gallions Reach end for a seriously low price, but never picked up the option, and the rest, as they say is history.
